Best practices for reliable recordings

Prevent common recording, upload, transcription, and note-generation issues in Skriber.

Most recording problems happen when audio capture is interrupted or the upload does not finish. Use this checklist before and during visits.

Before every visit

  • Use the Skriber iOS app when possible.

  • If using desktop, use Chrome.

  • Confirm the microphone indicator moves before continuing.

  • Keep your device awake.

  • Use stable Wi-Fi or strong cellular service.

On iPhone

  • Keep the Skriber app open while recording.

  • Keep the phone unlocked and the screen awake.

  • Avoid switching apps during the recording or upload.

  • Avoid phone calls during the recording.

  • Wait for processing to finish before closing Skriber.

On desktop

  • Use Chrome whenever possible.

  • Keep the Skriber tab open and visible while recording.

  • Do not close the tab or browser while uploading or processing.

  • Keep your computer awake.

  • Use a stable internet connection.

Telehealth visits

  • Skriber must be able to hear both you and the patient.

  • Headphones may prevent Skriber from hearing the other side of the conversation.

  • Use speaker audio or a second device when needed.

  • If your account uses Zoom integration, use the integration workflow for Zoom visits.

Phone calls

If the patient is on a phone call, place the call on speaker and record from a second device. Do not use the same phone for the patient call and Skriber recording unless your workflow has been tested.

If something goes wrong

If a note is missing, stuck, or shows an upload error, keep the app or browser open and contact support with the approximate visit time, device used, and whether the app/tab was closed, backgrounded, or interrupted. See What to do if your note is stuck or missing.
