Custom Instructions let you guide how Skriber writes your notes. They are useful for recurring preferences that do not require a full custom template.
Good custom instructions
Use bullet points in Assessment and Plan.
Keep patient instructions simple and concise.
Always include follow-up timing when discussed.
Do not include normal review of systems unless mentioned.
Use my preferred section names.
What not to use Custom Instructions for
Facts that were not discussed in the visit.
Standing diagnoses or medications that should come from the chart.
Clinical decisions that still require your review.
Large structural changes that should be handled by a template.
How to write good instructions
Be specific and short. Use direct wording such as: Keep the plan concise and include medication changes only if they are discussed in the visit.
After changing instructions
New notes should follow the updated instructions. To apply new instructions to an existing visit, regenerate the note and review the result before copying it into your EHR.
